Fully Funded World Bank Scholarship Program 2023: Outstanding and appropriately qualified students from developing nations enrolling in master’s degree programmes in development-related topics are eligible for the Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship Program. Expect to submit an application during the window from March to May.

JJWBGSP offers scholarships for 48 Participating Programs at universities in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan in essential development fields such economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management, subject to funding availability. Please be aware that you cannot apply for a JJWBGSP Scholarship in 2023 if you are not accepted into one of these 48 programmes.

World Bank Scholarships Program 2023-24 | DETAILS

With the JJWBGSP scholarships, you can get tuition, a monthly living allowance, round-trip travel expenses, health insurance, and more.

Eligibility & Criteria

Candidates must meet the programme requirements mentioned below in order to be considered for the World Bank Scholarships Program 2023–24.

  • Candidates from any Nationality are eligible.
  • Be a national of a World Bank member developing country.
  • Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country;
  • Be in good health;
  • Hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date;
  • Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree;
  • Be employed in development-related work in a paid full- time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application.

Scholarship Benefits

The following advantages are part of the fully financed World Bank Scholarship Program:

  • Economy class plane travel between your home country and the host university at the commencement of your study programme and immediately following the completion of the scholarship period. Scholars will also get two round-trip flights as well as a $500 US travel reimbursement for each journey;
  • Your graduate program’s tuition and the price of your university-provided basic health insurance.
  • Throughout the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence grant to cover all living costs is provided while on school (accommodations, food, etc., including books). Depending on the host nation, the allowance varies in size.
  • VISA application(s) costs
  • Expenses to bring and/or support a scholar’s family members;
  • Extra-curricular courses or training;
  • Courses that do not meet the minimum credits required to earn the graduate degree;
  • Language training not provided by the graduate program;
  • Additional travel during the course of the study program;
  • Expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops/seminars, or internships; or
  • Educational equipment such as computers.
  • Resident permit fee.

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: Submit One Online Application: For the second application window, only one completed electronic application through the online application portal will be accepted and examined.

An application is deemed finished if it contains:

  • Two online professional recommendation letters from individuals with firsthand experience of the applicant’s professional work history. And
  • One application form that has been fully filled out and is either written in English or the language of the applicant’s master’s programme and on which the applicant has agreed to the terms listed on the Signature Page. (For example, a completed Application Form written in French by an applicant who is seeking a scholarship to attend a preferred university in the United Kingdom would not be reviewed).
  • Filling out the application form requires you to upload scanned copies of the following documents, among other details:

i. Proof that the applicant satisfies the eligibility criterion with regard to the number of years of recent development-related activity. (For information on the quantity and types of documentation that must be uploaded, see the FAQs.)

(ii) The diploma for the applicant’s bachelor’s degree and, if relevant, the diploma for their most recent graduate degree.  (Never post a transcript in place of a diploma. Do not include one.


(iii) A curriculum vitae prepared in English and following the format in Annex 4 (or French for the GPE program at FERDI only). Do not list any unpaid labour in your resume. Alternatively, you can add a category called “Volunteer Work.” in your CV and list under that heading unpaid internships or other unpaid work.

(iv) Unconditional (except for financing) Letter of Admission for the upcoming academic year to the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program.
