Applications are invited from suitably qualified African scholars and postgraduate students for the programme West African Research Center Travel Scholarship 2023 For research visits to other institutions and regions on the continent which provides travel costs of up to $1,500 and a stipend of $1,500.
The WARC Travel Scholarship promotes intra-African collaboration and exchange between researchers and institutions by providing support to African scholars and postgraduate students for research visits on the continent.
West African Research Center Travel Scholarship 2023 | details
The scholarship is funded by the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is open to West African citizens only, with priority given to those affiliated with West African colleges, universities, or research institutions. The travel grant may be used to attend and present papers at academic conferences held on the continent of Africa as well as to visit libraries or archives located in Africa with the resources necessary for the applicant’s academic work. It can also be used to engage in collaborative work with colleagues at another African institution and to travel to a research site in Africa.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the 2023 West African Research Center Travel Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be West African nationals with preference given to those from colleges, universities or research institutions in West Africa.
- Demonstrate excellent academic and research capabilities.
Application procedures
How to apply: Interested applicants for the 2023 West African Research Center Travel Scholarship must complete the Online ordering and submit the following application requirements:
- A summary (50-80 words) of the proposed activity with a clear statement of purpose
- Description of the project/research (maximum 6 double-spaced pages) including why travel is necessary (must be in language understandable to non-specialist readers)

- CV (with research and teaching history)
- A copy of the applicant’s passport (must be a West African national)
- All applications must be submitted online in PDF documents
- All applicants must have a letter of recommendation.

A description of the groups to be referred to and their importance to the applicant’s research
