During the various trainee courses, learners will be experienced the multi-million rand full-mission Ship Handling Simulator. It is used to train Marine Pilots and Tug Masters, bringing them up to par with the International Standards Training, Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW) requirements and refining their skills with refresher training.

Furthermore, the Maritime School of Excellence (MSoE) is equipped with Terminal Operations Simulators, an RTG Crane, and a Ship-to-Shore Container Crane, which will afford learners the real-time opportunity to operate, maneuver, and acquaint themselves with all equipment and machinery related to terminal operations.

Additional simulators, including the Reach Stacker, Counter Balance, Mobile Harbour Crane, Rail Mounted Gantry, Straddle Carrier, and Truck Handling Simulator, will be accessible to enhance the comprehensive training offered by the Maritime School of Excellence.

Eligibility Criteria To qualify for the Transnet Graduate Trainee Program, applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

Operator Lifting Equipment (OLE): As an OLE, your focus will be on supporting port and terminal operations. You will need to have:

Skipper Port Operations (SPO): As an SPO, you’ll be responsible for vessels weighing over 25 tons but less than 200 tons in a port operations area. You will need:

Marine Motorman Grade II (MMG): As an MMG, your responsibilities will involve maintenance, repairs, and servicing of engines and auxiliary systems on board a vessel within a port operations area, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. For this role, you should have:

Minimum requirements can vary by course, but generally, a Grade 12 qualification with a Level 4 in the following compulsory subjects is needed: English, Mathematics, and Physical Science.
