Andrea Mitchell Undergraduate Research Center Scholarships | details
Students may receive grants of up to $3,000 for research expenses. All full-time University of Pennsylvania students enrolled in any school wishing to conduct research relevant to any dimension, practice, or theory of democracy, as well as relevant topics related to citizenship and constitutional government, are eligible to apply.
Applicants are expected, but not required, to undertake research that will contribute to the writing of a large essay or to complete an independent course of study during the 2023-2024 academic year. Work may include travel to libraries, archives, field sites, interviews, or other institutions.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Penn CURF Andrea Mitchell Undergraduate Research Grants, applicants are expected to meet the following conditions:
- Applicants must be domestic or international students
- The applicants will move to the USA
- Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time program
- Applicants must be prepared to study undergraduate courses
- Applicants must have evidence of English language proficiency

Please prepare the following documents as PDF files. Transcripts must be unsecured copies; Safe versions prevent us from reading your application and will therefore cause your application to be rejected.
- Research statement. A statement of no more than 1,000 words describing the objectives and justification for the research project related to some of the dimensions of “democracy, citizenship, and constitutionalism” that you wish to undertake. Outline as concretely as possible your initial research plans.
- An initial budget for your research expenses. Appropriate items include research travel, housing, food, telephone costs, book and document costs, archive usage fees, survey costs, etc.
