Leaders with Impact Scholarship 2023: The Leaders with Impact Scholarship supports our university’s vision to enable talented students to access a Heriot-Watt education, provide educational financial support, and build career and life skills, regardless of their background or circumstances in life, in partnership with FWD Takaful Berhad and Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
This scholarship assists young people from B40 families in Malaysia and aims to give them opportunity to:
- greater participation
- inclusivity for students from low-income families
- improve the quality of lives of B40 community.
The B40 group is defined as households with an annual income of less than RM4,850 by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM).
Up to ten (10) students who have passed the SPM, STPM, UEC, or equivalent examination are eligible for this scholarship. Successful applicants will receive the Leaders with Impact Scholarship, which covers 100% of tuition costs. They will also get a monthly cost-of-living stipend of up to RM1,300 for the duration of their studies.
Upon course completion, the successful scholar is required to fulfil a scholarship bond by working full-time for the scholarship sponsor. The policies and procedures of the scholarship sponsor apply to the bond period.
Eligibility
- All Malaysian students seeking to attend the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Campus who have passed the SPM, STPM, UEC, or comparable examination
- student with demonstrable financial needs who comes from a low-income family, particularly a B40 family.
B40 defined as total household income below RM4,850 per month.
- Students who performed exceptionally well in the examinations described above (based on official results provided by the Ministry of Education or other pertinent organisations) include:

Application
Through our online admissions system, applicants should submit their applications for admission to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. These applications must include the following information:
- SPM/STPM/UEC or equivalent qualification transcription
- Confirmation of B40 status – parent’s EA form / Parent’s pay slip
- A personal statement (max. 2 pages), which must outline your academic and extra curricular achievements to date and explain why you are interested to apply for this scholarship.
The Name of Sponsorship or Sponsor field on the online application form must read “Leaders with Impact Scholarship” for applicants.

Review and Selection
A two-stage approach will be used to evaluate applications:
- Schools will review all the applications and select a shortlist of the very best candidates to present to the HWUM Selection Committee for consideration.
- The HWUM Selection Committee will make the final decision.
Selection Committee will choose up to ten (10) students from the last interview.
