How to Apply for Germany Student Visa to Study in Germany

How to Apply for Germany Student Visa to Study in Germany: Discover how to apply for a Germany student visa if you want to study there: When I was getting ready to fly to another country for my studies last year since I was granted a Visa, I recall feeling both quite anxious and incredibly excited at the same time. In general, I had a mixed feeling. Many people, I believe, will concur with this.

The experience of applying for a visa is far more anxious and exciting. When your application is rejected, it is much more distressing because of the uncertainty. Why don’t we therefore simplify things for you? Not only should you apply for a visa, but do so in such a way that you are certain to be granted one.

Applying for Germany Student Visa: All You Should Know

Let’s get started!

When I discovered that an overseas student might stay in Germany for 3 months with a student visa, I was quite astounded. You must now apply for a residency visa to study inside that time frame. Also, you are only eligible for a two-year renewable permission that may be extended if your course work calls for it.

How Can I Apply?

This is really simple, much to how you spoke with an embassy the last time you wanted to travel abroad. To apply for a Germany student visa, the first step is to contact the German embassy or consulate in your home country. You can either complete this online or in person at the Embassy or consulate.

Germany Student Visa | What Type Do I Need?

Schengen Visa: If your studies will continue up to three months, you will need a Schengen visa. Your application for a German student visa will typically take up to 25 days to process. Depending on the nation and German embassy where you apply, processing times vary.

German National Visa: You’ll require a German National Visa if your studies extend more than three months. You should be aware that if you enter Germany with a German national visa, you must extend your stay by obtaining a German residency permit for studies. You can do this by contacting the Foreigner’s Office.

Some people have been known to wait until their visa expires, but if you choose to do so, you may find yourself in trouble. When your entry visa is still active, we urge you to get in touch with the Foreigner’s office. Why do something when you can do it tomorrow anyway?

Germany Student Visa Application Documents

While you are in Germany, you can apply for a prospective student visa and have it changed to a residence permit for academic purposes. The necessary documents are listed below;

  • Proof of valid private or public health insurance.
  • Certificate of enrolment from your institution.
  • Proof of finances.
  • Valid passport.
  • Current visa, if you have one.
  • Certificate of health (if need be)
  • Your tenancy agreement (if relevant)
  • Letter of commitment and evidence of your parent’s income records and financial assets. (If applicable)
  • Moreover, a “Verpflichtungserklärung” from a German resident is required. This document is obtained from the German resident who will pay for your study expenses at the office for the registration of aliens. (If appropriate)
  • Scholarship Awarding Certificate. It must disclose how many expenses it pays for. (If appropriate)
  • You have a bank guarantee from a reputable German bank. Some well-known banks are Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, KFW Bankgruppe, and DZ Bank.

German National Visa Application Documents

Even if you have not yet been accepted to a higher education institution, it is crucial to apply early because it can often take months for a visa to be approved. The conversion of a tourist visa to a student visa is not permitted. The following are the required documents to apply for a German national visa:

  • Completed and signed national visa application form.
  • Valid international passport.
  • Photocopies of your passport (up to 2).
  • Certificate of birth.
  • Marriage certificate. (If you are married).
  • Child’s certificate of birth. (If you have kids).
  • Recent passport-style photographs. (up to 3).
  • Photocopies of previous german residence titles. (if applicable).
  • Previous Schengen visa.
  • Previous German resident permit

Financial Implications

Due to Germany’s strict policies, you must demonstrate that you have the financial means to sustain yourself before you can start your studies. And the best way to demonstrate this is to set aside 10,236 Euros for a year (Refer to our post on Germany Free Tuition Studies for details on that). You will be required to submit a “Finanzierungsnachweis,” or proof of financial resources, while requesting a Germany student visa.

Over 268.856 visa applications were denied by German missions in 2019, while a startling 241.796 applications were also denied in 2018. Use a banned account as evidence of financial resources to increase your chances of receiving a student visa.

What is A Block Account?

A blocked account is a specific kind of bank account for international students in Germany that serves as documentation that you have the financial resources to live there while you are a student for a full year.

Via Fontina/Sutor bank, one of the simplest and quickest ways to open a German barred account. German embassies and consulates around the world are willing to accept the blocked account that Fontina has provided. An overseas student in Germany is predicted to spend a minimum of €853 per month according to estimates from 2020. Consequently, in order to be eligible to apply for a German student visa, you must have a block account with a minimum balance of €10,236.
At this moment, we must conclude, but we sincerely hope that we have calmed your nerves and some of your questions about Germany study visa are answered.
