The program aims to improve access to high-quality training in the sustainable energy sector in West Africa, enabling university graduates with a focus on young professionals (English, French and Portuguese speaking) in ECOWAS member states to acquire the profile required to meet The growing demand for specialists.

The EU-ECOWAS Scholarships 2023 seeks to encourage and promote access to quality training in the sustainable energy sector in West Africa that will empower university graduates with a focus on young professionals in ECOWAS members. Eligibility criteria
To be considered for the EU-ECOWAS Scholarships on Sustainable Development, applicants must fulfill the following conditions:
- Be a national of an ECOWAS member country or Mauritania and be resident in an ECOWAS region or Mauritania.
- Have at least a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Bachelor’s degree.
- Undertook studies of at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Environment (including renewable energy and energy efficiency), Law, Economics, Finance and Planning in accordance with the entrance requirements of the chosen university.
- Experience of working in the energy sector in West Africa would be an added advantage.
- Hold (at least) provisional admission to an approved course of study at the time of scholarship approval.
- The scholarship is open to both working and non-working candidates. Employed candidates are required to provide a release letter from their employer for course completion for the duration of the programme.
- Commit to publishing at least one practice-oriented paper before the end of the programme.
- Commitment to start training in the course of study.
