These scholarships are open to all nationalities and in all fields of research, and will be of benefit to students of the highest caliber who have the commitment and desire to work on challenging research projects in a world-leading research environment.
This funding is available to students studying in:
- Aerospace Engineering, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemical Engineering and Analytical Sciences, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Coatings and Ceramics, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Fashion Management and Marketing, Imaging and Characterization, Project Management in Engineering, Materials, and Mathematics , mechanical engineering, metallurgy and corrosion, nanoscale and functional materials, petroleum engineering, physics and astronomy, polymers and composites, and textiles and apparel.
Eligibility criteria
Interested applicants pursuing PhD scholarships at Manchester Dean University are expected to meet the following conditions:
- Applicants of all nationalities
- Applicants must submit an offer to start a PhD program in September 2022. Candidates who do not yet have an academic offer should contact the College’s admissions team to discuss the best way to apply for their PhD application in time for the funding deadline. See “Useful links” for contacts.
- Applicants must have (or be on the verge of obtaining) a first-class first-class honors degree (or international equivalent).
- Ideally, hold a Masters qualification of merit or distinction (or international equivalent)
- Applicants must meet the English language entry requirements as specified by the department to which you are applying;
- You have a proven track record of engaging in research. This may include contributions to publications/articles, promotion of your research to a wider audience, and awards for research or project work.
Grant benefits
The scholarship is a fully funded award that includes:
- Tuition fees at the international rate
- An annual salary equivalent to the UKRI minimum salary rate
- £1,000 research training support grant per year

Application procedures
How to apply: The Dean’s PhD Scholarships operate on a candidacy basis. Your supervisor will nominate you for consideration by the Faculty and in order to be considered you must hold an offer of a place on one of our PhD programmes.
It is therefore essential that you apply for a place on the PhD program of your choice as soon as possible and specify in the funding section of your application form that you would like to be considered for funding for a Dean’s Doctor Scholarship.
