Divided Commonwealth Scholarships 2023 | Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Commonwealth Split Site Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of, or have been granted refugee status by, an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British protected person.
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Be a registered PhD candidate at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time the scholarship is confirmed (September 2023).
- Ensure that there is an institutional or administrative link between your home university and the proposed UK university.
- The applicant must be available to commence academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2023.
- Applicants must submit all supporting documents in the required formats.
- By September 2023, hold at least a first class upper second class (2:1) honors degree, or a lower second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (normally a Masters degree).

Scholarship benefits
• Approved travel ticket from your home country to the UK and back at the end of your award.
• Approved tuition fees
• A stipend (living allowance) of £1,236 per month, or £1,516 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates are quoted at current levels)
• Warm clothing allowance, when required
• A travel scholarship to cover the cost of study-related travel within the UK or abroad
• If you are widowed, divorced or a single parent, the child allowance is £529 per month for the first child, and £131 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and they live with you at the same address in the UK
Application procedures
How to apply: Interested applicants for the Commonwealth Divided Scholarships 2023 must apply to study at a UK university that has a partial funding agreement with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC).
Applicants must apply directly to the CSC using the CSC Online application system. CSC will not accept any applications that are not made via the online application system.
Document requirements:
- Proof of citizenship or refugee status: A copy of a valid passport or national identity card showing the photo, date of birth, and country of citizenship or refugee status and uploading it to the online application system.
- Complete academic transcripts for all higher education qualifications including updated transcripts for any qualifications currently under consideration (with certified translations if not in English). The same should be uploaded on the online application portal.
- References from at least two people on institutional letterhead
- A supporting statement on institutional letterhead from a proposed supervisor in the UK from at least one of the institutions listed on the application form
- A supporting statement on institutional letterhead from the current supervisor at the home university.
